The oversized, wide arm pads provide a de facto width adjustment capability. However, ErgoTune&#8217;s design splits your backrest into two panels &#8211; one for the mid- and upper back and one for the lumbar area (see above). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second panel protrudes forward, always pressing into your back &#8211; and my initial concern was that it would become annoying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To my relief, I got used to it just after one afternoon in the driver&#8217;s seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>The wide, thick pad does a great job of distributing the force across the entire C-shaped section of the spine. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Compared with the Supreme, the height adjusts independently of the backrest, so you can target the pressure exactly where you need it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depth control, meanwhile, has two settings &#8211; strong and stronger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither is uncomfortable for me, but if you prefer a milder lumbar, I suggest you save up another $300-400 and buy a <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/steelcase-series-2-office-chair-review\/\">Steelcase Series 2<\/a> instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:65px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Ergonomic chairs are never beautiful. Most are ugly. But some are more attractive than others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Joobie&#8217;s aesthetic is definitely on the &#8220;pretty&#8221; end of the scale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>It looks classy, staying clear of the racer\/gamer look, but without entering the \u201cluxury office furniture\u201d segment, either. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If you asked me to coin a term for it, I&#8217;d name it &#8220;upmarket ergonomic&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can see it appealing mainly to the 25 to 35-year-old male demographic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Controls are minimalist, stylish and unobtrusive. Everything is controlled via levers &#8211; except recline tension. This creates a very tidy look, one that makes the Supreme&#8217;s knobs look like yesterday&#8217;s technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>You get a choice of six colours.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I decided to order my Joobie in &#8220;Sand Beige&#8221;, leaving the comfort zone of black. The Sand Beige is my favourite ErgoTune colour so far &#8211; but it has one major issue (see below).<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:65px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. The chair feels sturdy and expensive to the touch. Nothing squeaks, rattles or feels like it&#8217;s about to break or fall off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mechanisms are reassuringly made from metal &#8211; not plastic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike some <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/best-budget-office-chair\/\">budget office chairs<\/a>, the chair doesn&#8217;t give me any reasons to think it&#8217;d fall apart within a couple of years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>The Joobie&#8217;s base is made from polyurethane, while Supreme&#8217;s is made from metal. I don&#8217;t think this change has meaningful implications for longevity or usability.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>My only concern is the longevity of Joobie&#8217;s fabric-infused mesh. However, I&#8217;m not a heavy user, as I only sit in my office chair for 2-3 hours each day (and stand behind <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/updown-desk-review\/\">my standing desk<\/a> for the rest). Armpads Are Still Just-Above-Average.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1003\" src=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ertotune-joobie-armpads.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-106730\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ertotune-joobie-armpads.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ertotune-joobie-armpads-300x294.jpg 300w, https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/ertotune-joobie-armpads-768x752.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Above: Arm pads are larger than the Supreme&#8217;s but are made from harder plastic.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I criticised the Supreme&#8217;s average armrests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Joobie&#8217;s armrests are equally &#8220;meh&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>First, unlike Supreme&#8217;s armrests, they fail to adjust for width. This is weird. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The generous armpad width offers a workaround (just place your forearms where you want them), but it&#8217;s still a surprise to see ErgoTune delete an adjustment most users would view as essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>Second, the Joobie&#8217;s armpad material is harder than the Supreme&#8217;s. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>I like to lean on my elbows while I think, and it stops feeling comfortable after about 10 minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, the armpads feel perfectly fine if you simply use them as forearm support while tasking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:63px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. VerteSync Is A Gimmick.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I tried to like it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I really did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I still think it&#8217;s useless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For context, VerteSync unlocks an additional hinge on the backrest, allowing you to recline by about 10 degrees without changing your seat pan angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the movement feels notchy, and I don&#8217;t see what it achieves that the standard recline doesn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>I suspect ErgoTune&#8217;s marketing department was under pressure to create marketplace separation between the Joobie and the Supreme, and VerteSync was their solution.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Functionality-wise it achieves very little, but from a marketing point of view it helps the company pitch the Joobie as a successor to the Supreme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:57px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How The ErgoTune Joobie Scored.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Joobie has no deal-breakers, scoring high across all categories.
