{"id":118861,"date":"2025-07-31T21:57:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T21:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/?p=118861"},"modified":"2026-01-27T04:10:32","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T04:10:32","slug":"myob-vs-reckon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/myob-vs-reckon\/","title":{"rendered":"MYOB vs Reckon &#8211; Which Is Best For Aussie SMBs?"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 9<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span>\n<p>Both Reckon and MYOB are longstanding Australian-based accounting software companies that launched around the same time (back in the early 1990s). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Reckon\u2019s user base is significantly smaller than MYOB\u2019s.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both feature in <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/best-accounting-software-for-small-business\/\">my roundup of the best accounting software in Australia<\/a>, with MYOB beating Reckon as convincingly as Sinner beat Djokovic at Wimbledon this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every gory detail is in the autopsy below, dear reader. I tested the platforms personally, and have a lot to say about both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MYOB is clearly the superior choice. But this isn&#8217;t to say it&#8217;s perfect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I identified a few &#8220;opportunities for improvement&#8221; that I discuss below, and hope the company addresses in the near future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the way, I explored the following plans:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong><a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"MYOB Accounting\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/myob-accounting\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">MYOB Busine<\/a>ss<\/strong> Lite, Pro, and AccountRight Plus\/Premier.<\/li><li><strong><a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Reckon\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/reckon\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Reckon One<\/a><\/strong> Accounting Plus and Accounting Premium + Payroll (Essentials, Plus &amp; Premium).<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>MYOB vs Reckon: At A Glance.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><thead><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">MYOB Is Best For:<\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\">Reckon Is Best For:<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>Growing businesses<\/strong> that need inventory tracking, payroll rosters, multi-currency, and scalable features.<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>Budget-conscious businesses<\/strong> that want essential bookkeeping tools at a lower price.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>Businesses<\/strong> that want automated ATO BAS\/PAYG lodgement and better reporting tools.<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>Teams<\/strong> that don\u2019t require inventory and prefer simplicity over feature bloat.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><strong>Employee time tracking <\/strong>via mobile app and payroll scalability.<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><\/td><\/tr><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can\u2019t deny that Reckon One is a decent online accounting tool, and less expensive than MYOB. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its lowest tier is cheaper than MYOB\u2019s lowest SMB offering (but not cheaper than MYOB\u2019s app for sole operators).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you select Reckon One\u2019s highest plans for accounting and payroll, the most you\u2019ll pay is $95 per month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While at the higher end of MYOB\u2019s plans, AccountRight Plus is significantly dearer at $150 per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>But, MYOB delivers more: including reasonably comprehensive inventory tracking tools, rosters for payroll, automated BAS lodgment, and priority support on higher tiers.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>More features doesn\u2019t automatically equal to better. Especially if you don\u2019t need those features. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in a head-to-head comparison, I found Reckon One\u2019s interfaces clunkier and my time-to-value longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>I was confidently up-and-running far sooner in MYOB and more engaged with its tools. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>That matters \u2014 because switching providers down the track is a pain in the rear end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reckon and MYOB both allow for unlimited users, unlimited invoicing, expense management, bank transaction reconciliations, and reporting for both tax and performance management purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While MYOB has always developed its own solutions, Reckon initially began as a reseller of QuickBooks, before developing and launching its own Reckon One cloud-based plans in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>MYOB has the more mature ecosystem. I find that reassuring.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s more scope to scale up your online accounting needs over the four SMB plans offered by MYOB Business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s say you expand into exporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use AccountRight Premier to access multi-currency transactions and reporting, or even add another business and manage them both from a single online account (and one subscription). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither of which is possible with <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Reckon\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/reckon\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Reckon One<\/a>\u2019s plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>However, it\u2019s not actually a smooth transition from MYOB Business Pro to the AccountRight Plus\/Premier products \u2014 you\u2019ll need to subscribe separately and manually transfer your data over.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The difference in maturity also shows when you compare available integrations and partner networks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>MYOB<\/strong> has a much larger network of partners\/accountants (40K vs Reckon\u2019s 6K) across both big cities and regional areas. Important if you\u2019ll need professional help around tax time.<\/li><li><strong>MYOB\u2019s <\/strong>third-party app marketplace isn\u2019t the most extensive of leading accounting tools, but at over 350 add-ons it far surpasses the measly 37 apps you can connect to Reckon One.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A clear area of weakness for MYOB is its mobile app functionality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reckon One\u2019s native apps are better, but there\u2019s only an app for invoicing and payroll \u2014 not a full-fledged mobile accounting solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Ease Of Use.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>MYOB<\/strong><\/td><td>9\/10<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Reckon:<\/strong><\/td><td>8\/10<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Simplicity is the name of the game in <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"MYOB Accounting\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/myob-accounting\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">MYOB Business<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s easy to find what you need, and I also appreciated its detailed help articles that are formatted beautifully \u2014 more legible than most help content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block tip-wrapper\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-12\"><div class=\"card-wrapper\"><div class=\"card-title\"><div class=\"icon\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" fill=\"none\"><path fill-rule=\"evenodd\" clip-rule=\"evenodd\" d=\"M7.5 14.33a5 5 0 1 1 5 0v4.17h-5v-4.17Zm4.25-1.3-.75.44V17H9v-3.53l-.75-.44a3.5 3.5 0 1 1 3.5 0Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><path d=\"M9.25 1v2h1.5V1h-1.5ZM5.53 4.47l-1.5-1.5-1.06 1.06 1.5 1.5 1.06-1.06ZM15.53 5.53l1.5-1.5-1.06-1.06-1.5 1.5 1.06 1.06ZM1 10.75h2v-1.5H1v1.5ZM17 10.75h2v-1.5h-2v1.5Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><\/svg><\/div><h3 placeholder=\"Tip Title Goes Here\">Important!<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"card-content\"><p placeholder=\"Tip Content Goes Here\">Reckon One is less intuitive and there are a lot of features that aren\u2019t enabled by default (like estimates), forcing me to search for how to turn them on.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Confusing fields with little to no in-app explanatory text also made Reckon more perplexing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s an example: I created a few specific income categories to add to my Chart of Accounts in both platforms, to provide more granular details for performance reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>In MYOB<\/strong> there\u2019s a helpful \u2018tool tip\u2019 that explains how its category hierarchies work, and when I selected the category type (e.g., Income) it automatically generated a new \u2018category code\u2019 for me within the same number range.<\/li><li><strong>In Reckon One<\/strong> I couldn\u2019t see how to create a new parent category, you need to allocate your own code, and it also has a field for an \u2018export code\u2019 without explanation for accounting noobs like me.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block tip-wrapper\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-12\"><div class=\"card-wrapper\"><div class=\"card-title\"><div class=\"icon\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" fill=\"none\"><path fill-rule=\"evenodd\" clip-rule=\"evenodd\" d=\"M7.5 14.33a5 5 0 1 1 5 0v4.17h-5v-4.17Zm4.25-1.3-.75.44V17H9v-3.53l-.75-.44a3.5 3.5 0 1 1 3.5 0Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><path d=\"M9.25 1v2h1.5V1h-1.5ZM5.53 4.47l-1.5-1.5-1.06 1.06 1.5 1.5 1.06-1.06ZM15.53 5.53l1.5-1.5-1.06-1.06-1.5 1.5 1.06 1.06ZM1 10.75h2v-1.5H1v1.5ZM17 10.75h2v-1.5h-2v1.5Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><\/svg><\/div><h3 placeholder=\"Tip Title Goes Here\">Did You Know?<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"card-content\"><p placeholder=\"Tip Content Goes Here\">One thing to note: MYOB Business\u2019 plans aren\u2019t fully cloud-based like Reckon One.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll have to download a dedicated desktop-based app if you opt for its AccountRight Plus or AccountRight Premier plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although you&#8217;ll be able to do the vast majority of everyday accounting through any browser.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reckon lets you drag-and-drop the modules on your online dashboard to reorganise what you see upon signing-in, and offers quick links to common tasks like creating a new invoice or bill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those would both be \u2018nice-to-haves\u2019 on MYOB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>But Reckon One\u2019s dashboard widgets are less useful. For instance, MYOB\u2019s dashboard includes an \u2018Overdue Invoices\u2019 widget.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It clearly shows outstanding amounts broken up by how overdue the invoices are (e.g., 1-15 days overdue, 16-30 days overdue). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can click from here to go straight to your list of overdue invoices so you can take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block tip-wrapper\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-12\"><div class=\"card-wrapper\"><div class=\"card-title\"><div class=\"icon\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" fill=\"none\"><path fill-rule=\"evenodd\" clip-rule=\"evenodd\" d=\"M7.5 14.33a5 5 0 1 1 5 0v4.17h-5v-4.17Zm4.25-1.3-.75.44V17H9v-3.53l-.75-.44a3.5 3.5 0 1 1 3.5 0Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><path d=\"M9.25 1v2h1.5V1h-1.5ZM5.53 4.47l-1.5-1.5-1.06 1.06 1.5 1.5 1.06-1.06ZM15.53 5.53l1.5-1.5-1.06-1.06-1.5 1.5 1.06 1.06ZM1 10.75h2v-1.5H1v1.5ZM17 10.75h2v-1.5h-2v1.5Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><\/svg><\/div><h3 placeholder=\"Tip Title Goes Here\">Important!<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"card-content\"><p placeholder=\"Tip Content Goes Here\">MYOB also includes bank feeds on your dashboard so you can quickly scan recent transactions.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Reckon\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/reckon\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Reckon One<\/a>\u2019s native mobile app for invoicing on-the-go is much higher-rated by users than MYOB\u2019s invoicing app. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And having tried them both, I can say MYOB\u2019s app is clearly worse from a usability standpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>You can only add a total amount for each line item. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You can\u2019t use a calendar to select the invoice due date. There was no on-screen message to say my invoice had been sent successfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One plus is that the <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"MYOB Accounting\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/myob-accounting\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">MYOB Invoice app<\/a> also lets you create and send quotes via your phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And MYOB also offers a convenient native app for snapping pics of receipts for business expenses on-the-go, which is lacking in Reckon One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Invoicing And Payments.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>MYOB<\/strong><\/td><td>9\/10<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Reckon:<\/strong><\/td><td>7\/10<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Invoicing in MYOB fits the bill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reckon\u2019s invoicing interface isn\u2019t <i>hard to use<\/i> exactly, but it is confusing. I wasted too much time getting the hang of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some things I found exceptionally annoying about invoicing in Reckon (that aren\u2019t a problem in MYOB):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>You can\u2019t specify <\/strong>a unit price and quantities, and have the system automatically calculate the total, unless you\u2019ve recorded your product\/service as an \u2018item\u2019 and then selected that item to add to the invoice.<\/li><li><strong>It defaults to GST-inclusive<\/strong> amounts when you create a new item and invoice, so I was always having to remember to switch it to GST exclusive, so the GST would be added on top of my line item totals.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding \u2018items\u2019 in Reckon isn\u2019t difficult \u2014 but sometimes I want to just dash off a quick invoice for ad hoc work charged by the hour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block tip-wrapper\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-12\"><div class=\"card-wrapper\"><div class=\"card-title\"><div class=\"icon\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" fill=\"none\"><path fill-rule=\"evenodd\" clip-rule=\"evenodd\" d=\"M7.5 14.33a5 5 0 1 1 5 0v4.17h-5v-4.17Zm4.25-1.3-.75.44V17H9v-3.53l-.75-.44a3.5 3.5 0 1 1 3.5 0Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><path d=\"M9.25 1v2h1.5V1h-1.5ZM5.53 4.47l-1.5-1.5-1.06 1.06 1.5 1.5 1.06-1.06ZM15.53 5.53l1.5-1.5-1.06-1.06-1.5 1.5 1.06 1.06ZM1 10.75h2v-1.5H1v1.5ZM17 10.75h2v-1.5h-2v1.5Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><\/svg><\/div><h3 placeholder=\"Tip Title Goes Here\">Important!<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"card-content\"><p placeholder=\"Tip Content Goes Here\">I don\u2019t want to be forced into the extra step of creating an \u2018item\u2019 for a service I\u2019ll never need to re-use.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The links to actually send your invoice via email, or save it as a recurring invoice, aren\u2019t as obvious in Reckon One as they are in MYOB. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, you can\u2019t even <em>see<\/em> the option to make the invoice a recurring one in Reckon until you\u2019ve saved it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>Compared to Reckon, I felt a sense of relief and greater confidence when I switched over to MYOB\u2019s invoicing interface.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As well as being more flexible, <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"MYOB Accounting\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/myob-accounting\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">MYOB also makes it easy to adjust payment options<\/a> and email reminder settings while you\u2019re creating an invoice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reckon does offer automated payment reminder emails that can be applied under settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block tip-wrapper\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-12\"><div class=\"card-wrapper\"><div class=\"card-title\"><div class=\"icon\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" fill=\"none\"><path fill-rule=\"evenodd\" clip-rule=\"evenodd\" d=\"M7.5 14.33a5 5 0 1 1 5 0v4.17h-5v-4.17Zm4.25-1.3-.75.44V17H9v-3.53l-.75-.44a3.5 3.5 0 1 1 3.5 0Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><path d=\"M9.25 1v2h1.5V1h-1.5ZM5.53 4.47l-1.5-1.5-1.06 1.06 1.5 1.5 1.06-1.06ZM15.53 5.53l1.5-1.5-1.06-1.06-1.5 1.5 1.06 1.06ZM1 10.75h2v-1.5H1v1.5ZM17 10.75h2v-1.5h-2v1.5Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><\/svg><\/div><h3 placeholder=\"Tip Title Goes Here\">Expert Tip.<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"card-content\"><p placeholder=\"Tip Content Goes Here\">Some of Reckon\u2019s usability issues are solved in its \u2018new\u2019 invoicing mode. I was able to try the Beta version during my trial. <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The new layout looks better and simplifies how you customise the fields\/columns included on your invoice. It looks a lot less professional than MYOB\u2019s neatly formatted message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re keen to add online payments to invoices so customers can immediately settle their bill using credit\/debit card, that\u2019s possible on both platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MYOB has a more extensive range of payment options, including BPAY and a QR code link that\u2019s added to the invoice PDF. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also set-up online payments within your MYOB account, while Reckon One requires connecting an account from a third-party provider: either PayPal or Braintree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Payroll And Inventory Management.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Track<\/strong> products to account for stock levels and guide cost-effective re-ordering.<\/li><li><strong>Record<\/strong> more precise details about items including specific units of measure.<\/li><li><strong>Allocate<\/strong> a supplier of different products to report on stock sales by supplier.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>With all your stock tracked and minimum stock levels defined, you can regularly run a reorder report that alerts you to what goods are getting low. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can then select items from the report and with a click generate a purchase order with the relevant supplier to ensure you won\u2019t run out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block tip-wrapper\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-12\"><div class=\"card-wrapper\"><div class=\"card-title\"><div class=\"icon\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" that handle inventory \u2014 ranging in price from $300 to over $1,000 annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MYOB and Reckon One are more on par when it comes to payroll features, although Reckon has the edge in terms of value, because its three payroll plans are optional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>That saves you money if you don\u2019t need payroll, and gives you more flexibility if you do.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, you can stay on Reckon One\u2019s lowest-tier base plan (Accounting Plus) but scale up to the highest tier payroll plan (Payroll Premium) if your team expands rapidly and you need unlimited payroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block tip-wrapper\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-12\"><div class=\"card-wrapper\"><div class=\"card-title\"><div class=\"icon\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" leave.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>MYOB includes payroll in all its SMB plans, but gives you the freedom to process pay runs for people as needed at a reasonable per-head cost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except on the highest tier (AccountRight Plus) where you don\u2019t pay anything extra for unlimited payroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Importantly, you won\u2019t hit a ceiling on how many people you can pay on either platform (and need to switch to a third-party solution) if headcount growth underpins your success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees can track when they worked, or took leave, via Timesheets within Reckon One (Plus and Premium plans only) that you can approve\/deny and then use to generate pay runs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MYOB also enables time tracking for timesheet-based pays on its Pro and AccountRight Plus plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>But you can also build and publish set rosters for your employees to track time against (including start\/end times and allocated breaks) \u2014 which isn\u2019t possible with Reckon One.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A flaw with Reckon One: no mobile time tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MYOB has the advantage on this point, because it does have a dedicated mobile app for employees to track time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block you free access<\/a> to a workplace benefits app, powered by Flare HR, which entitles your team to retail discounts, cash back offers, and financial wellbeing and mental health resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Reporting &amp; Tax Management.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>MYOB<\/strong><\/td><td>9\/10<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Reckon:<\/strong><\/td><td>7\/10<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be less woe around taxes if you choose MYOB Business over Reckon One, because MYOB generates a pre-filled business activity statement (BAS) report you can lodge with the ATO straight from your account. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>Same with PAYG reports.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, you can definitely calculate the GST\/PAYG your business owes using Reckon One\u2019s reports, to help you prepare your forms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a more automated process is appealing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For budgets and performance reporting, both platforms do a credible job of generating the key reports:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>P&amp;L<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>General<\/strong> ledger.<\/li><li><strong>Payroll<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Sales<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>AR<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Expense<\/strong> \/ profitabiliy.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>But adjusting the data included to build out your own custom reports that you can save isn\u2019t possible in Reckon One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That would frustrate me no end if I had a particular view I wanted to return to over and over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>MYOB\u2019s filtering tools are well-presented and you can save and find your custom reports easily via the main \u2018Reporting\u2019 menu.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. You\u2019ll pay:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>$95 <\/strong>per month on Reckon One when you opt for the Accounting Premium plan ($40\/m) and the most expensive payroll plan, Payroll Plus ($55\/m).<\/li><li><strong>$87<\/strong> monthly for the mid-tier MYOB Business Pro ($63\/m), which lets you process pay for an unlimited number of employees at $2 a head ($2 X 12 = $24).<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as you need to pay more than 16 people, MYOB becomes the more expensive option but its higher tiers are also more feature-rich for an organisation that\u2019s increasing in complexity, which makes it good value for what you get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>My Conclusion.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Reckon One might be smart if you\u2019re price sensitive and you find it ticks all your boxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But MYOB\u2019s user experience is more effortless and I trust the company more to continue making improvements to modernise its product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the sticking point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>Both of these platforms have been operating in Australia for over 30 years. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a reason that <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"MYOB Accounting\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/myob-accounting\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">MYOB is still one of the largest and best-rated tools for small businesses<\/a>, while Reckon is less prominent and seems to be in decline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It comes down to being easier to wrangle and more elegant to engage with day-to-day.
