You just want to hit \u2018buy\u2019 (or sell).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard Coinbase makes buying and selling crypto simple for beginners. But it\u2019s not as good a <em>value<\/em> as exchanges like Kraken or Australian-based exchange CoinSpot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>Unless you\u2019re using Coinbase Advanced, the fees are high compared to major competitors.<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A basic market order comes with transaction fees and spreads charged by Coinbase &#8211; which can be hard to determine accurately beforehand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whereas there are no spreads on Coinbase Advanced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, there\u2019s a fixed, and more competitive, trading fee based on your order type and trading volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news? Swapping AUD for USDC attracts a 0.5% spread on Coinbase.<\/li><li><strong>Easy to use. <\/strong>Again, it\u2019s true of most modern exchanges, but Coinbase reviewers often praise its clean interfaces. The web app is outstanding. The mobile app\u2019s navigation is confusing at times, and you have to switch between basic and Advanced views to access some features.<\/li><li><strong>Prominent and trustworthy.<\/strong> It\u2019s a public company and industry leader, so it\u2019s incentivised to act compliantly and focus on safety for customers. It was the first exchange to be independently audited to attain well-regarded SOC 1 and SOC 2 reports.<\/li><li><strong>Seamless onboarding process.<\/strong> A lot of people on Reddit described it as &#8220;difficult&#8221; and &#8220;slow&#8221;, but my experience was the opposite. Certainly room for improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the biggest issue is the hefty spread you&#8217;ll pay on the standard Coinbase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official party line is that this fee is &#8220;volatility and volume sensitive&#8221;, and ranges between roughly 0.5% and 2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>Is it a lot?<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, it may seem insignificant when depositing small amounts. An experienced, high-volume trader can thrive on Coinbase Advanced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It strikes the perfect middle ground for a trader who wants a solid, secure platform with high-volume trading discounts, but is less concerned about having the most comprehensive, in-depth trading and analysis tools.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The major draws of Coinbase Advanced for traders who know what they\u2019re doing are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Access to the order book<\/strong> and outstanding liquidity. Of course, <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow noindex\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Kraken\" href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/recommends\/kraken\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Kraken Pro<\/a> has a similar offering &#8211; with less liquidity but better trading fees.<\/li><li><strong>High-quality charting<\/strong> and technical indicators. Coinbase presents its dashboard and technical analysis tools for ease-of-use. You can also link your account to TradingView as of 2025.<\/li><li><strong>A less overwhelming interface<\/strong> than some other exchanges\u2019 advanced trader platforms, particularly in comparison to Binance Pro. Its desktop app is a breeze to use.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The fixed maker-taker fee model in Coinbase Advanced clarifies what you\u2019ll owe, which is essential for planning and evaluating your trading costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also means you\u2019ll pay less and less the more you trade. As low as 0.0% on some spot pairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>Incidentally, all this also makes Coinbase an ideal exchange for traders who know they\u2019ll be ramping up their trading activity.
