It means the author didn&#8217;t have the commercial acumen to explain your value, and instead propped up the resume with drama.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>And here, you see &#8220;visionary&#8221;, &#8220;pioneering&#8221;, &#8220;notable&#8221; and &#8220;unparalleled&#8221;. Quite the buzzword bingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, a profile like this is just a glorified job description. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead of selling you, it describes what every single Executive GM in the energy sector is expected to do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Lead<\/strong> resource extraction.<\/li><li><strong>Expand<\/strong> market reach.<\/li><li><strong>Transform<\/strong> the business.<\/li><li><strong>Champion<\/strong> innovative tech.<\/li><li><strong>Improve<\/strong> culture and employee engagement.<\/li><li><strong>Drive<\/strong> profitability.<\/li><li><strong>Oversee<\/strong> environmental responsibility.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s no focus. No story. No differentiators. No value proposition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just a generic introduction that dumbs down your experience and guarantees you get overlooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Your Resume Is Written For Your Old Self.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The hardest part about writing your own resume is remaining objective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, most candidates are too close to their own experience &#8211; or write resumes for their own ego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>&#8220;Here&#8217;s everything I&#8217;ve done! It&#8217;s a signal about your future.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This becomes particularly problematic once you move into senior roles. By including excessive detail, you create a resume that makes you look more junior than you are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, you may have stepped into a leadership role and are not &#8220;doing the doing&#8221; any more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But your resume still reads like it &#8211; like your old self.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3.
