Many of them want to know why some resume writers charge $100, while others can charge up to $2,000.<\/p>\n<p>Why is the price difference so great?<\/p>\n<p>To add to this confusion, there&#8217;s also the question of\u00a0 &#8220;<em>personal branding strategists<\/em>&#8220;. Specifically, who are they, what exactly do they do and how do they differ from standard resume writers?<\/p>\n<p>Before you commit to having your resume professionally written, either with the help of my\u00a0resume writing service\u00a0or those of a competitor, allow me to shine a light on these questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/tailor-your-executive-resume\/\">How To Tailor Your Executive Resume<\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"blog-post-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><strong>1. Costs Of Professional Resume Writing.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Personally, I prefer to buy products and services that are at the higher end of the market.<\/p>\n<p>Not because I&#8217;m rich, but because I:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Enjoy<\/strong> dealing with people who are excellent at what they do.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Have<\/strong> an innate appreciation for products that are well-made.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Find<\/strong> that top-notch products and services usually (and counterintuitively) save me money in the long-term.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s one of the reasons why I use a MacBook Pro.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s why I&#8217;ve been frequenting The Apollo restaurant in Sydney&#8217;s Potts Point for over 14 years.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also why I listen to music on my\u00a0Sennheiser HD25 headphones, which I bought when I was still in my 20&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17166\" src=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/have-your-resume-professionally-written-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"have-your-resume-professionally-written\" width=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They haven&#8217;t missed a beat for over 20 years &#8211; and they sound better than the (cleverly marketed, but technologically inferior) Beats. Yep, there. I said it.<\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/truth-about-cheap-resume-writing-services\/\">having your resume &#8216;professionally&#8217; written by a cheap resume writer<\/a> is an exercise in false economy.<\/p>\n<p>Cheaper almost always means less experienced and less commercially astute. It means your &#8220;professionally written&#8221; resume will not do justice to your career, leaving important commercial details on the table.<\/p>\n<p>The few hundred dollars you save now will cost you tens of thousands of dollars in the long term &#8211; in lower salaries and fewer promotions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"blog-post-spacer\"><\/div>\n<h2><strong>2. Awkward Truth About Personal Branding.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you decide to have your resume professionally written, you&#8217;re likely to encounter someone who claims to specialise in personal branding.<\/p>\n<p>Do you need a personal branding strategist or a traditional resume writer?<\/p>\n<p>In short, you need both.<\/p>\n<p>Personal branding, in its ideal form, equips you with <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/how-to-brand-yourself\/\">the right tools to succeed in this world<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The process of personal branding requires a unique skillset which sits at the intersection of marketing, human resources, copywriting and design &#8211; all of which are backed up with a hefty dose of commercial acumen.<\/p>\n<p>Trouble is, most resume writers attempt to piggyback off the personal branding trend by calling themselves <em>&#8220;personal branding strategists&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; yet continuing to approach their work in the same way as they did back in 1995.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><em>I know this because I regularly receive enquiries from people who have had their resumes professionally written by well-known &#8216;personal branding strategists&#8217;. They enquire after their resumes fail to produce results in the job market.<\/em><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Worse, many of them ended up with resumes that pitch them at a lower level of seniority.<\/p>\n<p>For example, I recently spoke with a bona fide CFO who had been applying for roles using a &#8216;professionally&#8217; written resume which positioned him at the level of a Financial Controller.<\/p>\n<p>He wasted four months on applying for wrong roles, through no fault of his own.<\/p>\n<p>I get quite disturbed when I witness situations like these.<\/p>\n<p>Your career is an asset that you&#8217;ve built over a lifetime.
