Their inner workings, their motivations, remain a mystery. This is why I decided to provide you with a few glimmers of clarity from renowned Australian recruiter, Greg Savage.

Greg is a bit of a recruiting legend—and not just in Oz. A veritable recruiter’s recruiter, he’s famous for coaching and counselling recruiters at all levels in their careers.

This post explores 4 burning questions that executive-level candidates tend to have about the world of Australian recruiters. Each question includes a quote from Greg speaking specifically to recruiters.

His advice to them is adapted here for to help you successfully navigate the executive job search.

Let’s dive into it…

Question #1: “Why Am I Repeatedly Cold-Called By Executive Recruiters, And How Should I Handle It?”

First off, a quote from Greg on the “why”:

“The future of recruitment is that everyone is a candidate – all the time. And it is up to us to convert them into active candidates, not wait for them to amble up to our ‘fruit stall’ and ask for a punnet of cherries.”

Fair enough. But if you’re like many executives, you may be cold-called several times a month—which can truly feel overwhelming.

(Related: Secrets Of Writing A CEO Resume).

According to Greg, the key is to determine which cold calls really represent career opportunities that will suit you. To souse this out, he recommends the following:

Start by asking how much the executive recruiter knows about your own background.
