Where your resume falls on that spectrum will be <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">determined by:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Length<\/strong> of your career.<\/li><li><strong>Your<\/strong> seniority.<\/li><li><strong>Geographical<\/strong> location of your target company (North American companies expect 2-3 pageswhile Australian companies are OK with more).<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you&#8217;re struggling to keep your executive resume within these limits, remember that it&#8217;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s not intended to be a novel of everything that you\u2019ve done in your life. Focus on:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Stripping<\/strong> away achievements that are not aligned with your target role.\u00a0<\/li><li><strong>Culling<\/strong> buzzwords, hyperbole and self-evident statements from your profile.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pay attention to the content spillover on the last page. What Language Should You Use?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The four key principles of effective writing are:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><strong>Clarity.<\/strong> Say what you mean without confusion.<br><strong>Simplicity<\/strong>. Reduce clutter and meaningless words.<br><strong>Brevity.<\/strong> Strip your writing down to its essentials.<br><strong>Humanity.<\/strong> Allow your personality to come through.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>These principles apply to <em>all writing<\/em> &#8211; not just <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/executive-resume-writer\/\">executive resume writing<\/a>. What Is An Executive Profile?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a 5-10-sentence section that summarises your commercial value in narrative form. You\u2019re telling the reader what results you&#8217;re known for delivering. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are you an executive leader who drives revenue in emerging markets? Or are you a transformational leader who specialises in turnarounds?&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Resist<\/strong> the temptation to describe yourself using <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/7-cliches-you-should-remove-from-your-resume-right-now\/\">meaningless cliches<\/a> like \u201cdynamic and energetic\u201d. (What does that even mean?).<\/li><li><strong>Remove<\/strong> self-evident, fluffy statements like \u201cstrategic leader focused on growth\u201d. That would add value to the reader only if there was a market need for non-strategic leaders who are not focused on growth.<\/li><li><strong>Avoid<\/strong> stuffing this section with keywords solely for the purpose of impressing the ATS. While ATS optimisation is important, it must be done artfully, in a way that doesn\u2019t repel the human reader.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The key to nailing the executive summary is identifying the crossroads of your key strengths.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Do<\/strong> you have a passion for renewables?<\/li><li><strong>What<\/strong> is your leadership style?<\/li><li><strong>What<\/strong> size teams do you specialise in leading?<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking those into consideration, you could describe yourself as:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cA transformational ASX100 CEO with a 10-year track record of driving profitability in clean energy organisations. How To Sell Your Work Experience?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Write in <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/resume-format\/\">reverse chronological order<\/a>. Ensure that your current role is listed at the top.&nbsp;Under each of your roles, provide 1-2 sentences that describe that role and the company:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Why<\/strong> were you hired for that role?<\/li><li><strong>What<\/strong> was the business context around that role?<\/li><li><strong>What<\/strong> type of company was it?<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember that you only have 2-4 pages of real estate. Every. Word. Counts. Resist the temptation to fluff up the content. Instead:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>List<\/strong> your accomplishments in bullet form.<\/li><li><strong>Use<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/action-verbs-resume\/\">action verbs<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/how-to-write-highly-persuasive-resume-achievements\/\">front-load your achievements<\/a> (e.g., \u201ccharged with, \u201cheld accountable for\u201d, \u201celiminated\u201d).<\/li><li><strong>Demonstrate<\/strong> size and scope: size of P&amp;L, number of direct reports, etc.<\/li><li><strong>Unpack<\/strong> business context: who did you report to, how did you get the role?<\/li><li><strong>Quantify!<\/strong> Strengthen your accomplishments by providing concrete, measured results.<\/li><li><strong>Offer<\/strong> 3-6 accomplishments for your most recent 2-3 roles and reduce the number as you go back further in time.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve held multiple positions at the same company, do not lump them together. Demonstrate career growth and trajectory by showing individual accomplishments for each position.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep asking \u201cso what?\u201d to drill down into your accomplishment and to make it more impactful.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span><em>You lead a team. So what? It achieved 200% growth. So what? That growth translated into greater market share. So what? It helped the company expand to new regions. So what?<\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You get my point.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have an employment gap on your resume, don\u2019t attempt to hide or mask it. Position it in the best possible light &#8211; and be prepared to talk about that in your interview. How To Write About Your Education?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, you do need to include education on your resume. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be sure to omit years of degrees to make sure you don\u2019t age yourself out of any position. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you haven\u2019t yet finished a degree that you\u2019ve started, write \u201cin progress\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:41px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>8. Should You Include Awards?<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes. Add elements that round you out as a job seeker and demonstrate your commitment to continuous learning. For example:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Licenses<\/strong> and certifications.<\/li><li><strong>Professional<\/strong> affiliations.<\/li><li><strong>Awards<\/strong> and recognitions.<\/li><li><strong>Courses<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>Community<\/strong> service.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:41px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>9. Don&#8217;t Let Your Executive Resume Stagnate.<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Remember that the resume is a live document.
