Stress and rushed edits ensue. How often should you update your resume, then, so you can always be ready to pounce on new opportunities?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>Even if you aren\u2019t actively looking for a job, I recommend that you review your resume regularly to ensure it best represents your skills and experience.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Invest a little bit of your time in the 11 situations I describe below to ensure your resume is always capable of impressing hiring managers during a job search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Recruiters need to know that you have the skills to solve a specific set of commercial challenges within their company.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:39px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. After A Performance Review.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Consider the traits and accomplishments that your boss praised during the review. If they are not in your resume, add them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>For example, maybe you led a team that helped increase company sales. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You should <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/how-to-write-highly-persuasive-resume-achievements\/\">highlight that achievement using the CAR or ARTA method<\/a>, demonstrating and quantifying your impact on the business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Related: <a href=\"http:\/\/arielle.com.au\/resume-sections\/\">Delete These Sections From Your Resume Immediately<\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Following A Redundancy Or Job Loss<\/strong>.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, most adults will experience redundancy or job loss during their careers. If this happens, an up-to-date resume will help you re-enter the job market more quickly and with less stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/redundancy-entitlements\/\">How To Get Maximum Redundancy Entitlements<\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Explaining a redundancy or a job loss on your resume is an art form. <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/gaps-in-resume\/\">My guide<\/a> shows you the best way to approach it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7. If Your References Change.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Occasionally, you might want to double-check the accuracy of your referees&#8217; contact details &#8211; in case some of them change their phone number or email address.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/how-to-write-references-in-resume\/\">Do You Need To Include Referees On Your Resume?<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>Before updating your references, contact all of them and ask if they still permit you to give out their phone number or email. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, check that your chosen referees are still the best people to provide a vote of confidence for your skills and personal attributes. As You Obtain New Skills Or New Job Title.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p> Even if you don&#8217;t have plans to leave your current role, consider updating your resume when you acquire new major skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/resume-skills\/\">resume&#8217;s skills section<\/a><\/strong> may not be a huge part of your resume, but it is critical for drawing the attention of recruiters and passing ATS tests.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10. When You Receive A New Degree Or Certificate.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Added another degree to your toolkit? Add the university&#8217;s name, the name of the program, the degree type, and the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>If you earned any special honours<\/strong>, add those as well.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding a degree or certificate shows employers that you&#8217;ve continued your education to advance your skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>It can also demonstrate <\/strong>that you&#8217;re willing to learn new things to succeed at your job.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Sharing your education or training can also help when looking to move to a new industry. If you don&#8217;t have relevant work experience, you can use your degree to set yourself apart from other candidates.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>11. Upon Completion Of A Project.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mention the project under the &#8220;job responsibilities&#8221; section of your professional history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Include details about the broader business context (e.g., why were you brought on to run this project?) and your achievements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>You can also add <\/strong>personal or educational projects. <\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Place them in the &#8220;Education&#8221; or &#8220;Hobbies&#8221; sections of your resume to maintain clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Well, How Often Should You Update Your Resume?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Almost every job seeker has wondered, \u201cHow often should I update my resume?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, every job seeker has done their best to avoid making resume updates regularly.
