Most chairs in this price segment are rubbish. The Sihoo M57, however, is a rare exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being at the budget end of the office chair market, this is one of the best chairs on the Australian market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/best-ergonomic-office-chair\/\">premium, expensive office chairs<\/a>, but with the recent cost of living and inflation spikes, I&#8217;m not sure many people are ready to invest in something like a Herman Miller Aeron (which costs an eye-watering 6.5 times as much as the Sihoo M57).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help you choose an economic downturn-friendly chair, I ordered an M57 on Amazon. Great Value For Money.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You get some serious bang for your buck with the Sihoo M57.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It has 9 points of adjustment that include two-way headrest, bi-directional lumbar support (more about it shortly), 3D armrests, seat height, recline, and recline tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>The waterfall arc seat\u00a0design, which is essentially a down-sloping profile, is also a pleasant surprise at this price point. It prevents blood circulation from being cut off (no more pins and needles).<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>High-density mesh looks premium and feels satisfyingly taut. It&#8217;s certainly not cheap and flimsy, but is also not abrasive, unlike so many polyester alternatives on cheaper chairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>Looks-wise, it&#8217;s also bang on. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>While it won&#8217;t win any international design awards, it&#8217;s a charismatic, modern-looking chair that will not detract from your home office environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, its aesthetic is more sober and smart than much more expensive ergonomic chairs (e.g., Ergohuman).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>It&#8217;s certainly much better-looking than some abominations you&#8217;ll find in this price range on Amazon.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:61px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. The metallic cap is a nice design touch that elevates the look of the chair.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finding a fully adjustable lumbar support on a budget office chair is another surprise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of chairs in this price range only offer a height adjustment, while Sihoo&#8217;s height can be raised 5 cm from its base position, <em>and<\/em> depth can change by 3 cm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/sihoo-doro-s300-office-chair-review\/\">Sihoo Doro S300 Ergonomic Chair Review: An Aeron Killer?<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That might not sound like a lot, but is enough to mould Sihoo&#8217;s backrest to my back, with plenty of movement to spare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>The mechanism itself is fairly rudimentary, and feels cheap to the touch. <\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You push the pad up and down manually to adjust height, and rotate a knob to adjust depth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No bells, whistles or fancy tension knobs, but it works. The metal cap on the knob is a nice design touch, too, and elevates the chair&#8217;s look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Tall And Comfortable Backrest.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The backrest\u2019s design borrows cues from a butterfly. I&#8217;ve measured it, and it&#8217;s actually 60cm!<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There are some ergonomic chairs out there that are too slim \u2013 particularly for those with a dad-bod-in-progress like me. For every centimetre you lean back, the seat pan will raise by a centimetre. This is sub-optimal, as your feet eventually begin to lift off the floor. Synchro-tilt mechanisms in premium chairs solve this issue by reducing the gearing between the backrest and the seat pan by 50%.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. The Headrest Is A Nice Touch.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Very few office chairs include them as standard, presumably because of cost, laziness, sophistication, [insert excuse]&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a truly ergonomic experience, I&#8217;m in the camp that believes a headrest should be standard. Being quite lofty and over six feet, I need support from head to toe \u2013 as do countless others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>(Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/kedrom-kd9060-review\/\">Kedrom KD9060: Best Cheap Chair In Australia?<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only that, but the Sihoo M57 headrest is highly adjustable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"arrow-wrapper\"><div class=\"arrow-list\"><ul><li><strong>It can be<\/strong> adjusted up to 10cm high.<\/li><li><strong>The angle<\/strong> can be turned 45 degrees both ways.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the reach isn&#8217;t adjustable through a separate mechanism. Instead, you must adjust it by changing the angle, which makes it quite easy to move the headrest unintentionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. The Build Quality Is On Point.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sihoo M57 uses bare metal in its base and armrests. It&#8217;s a smart design choice that invokes a sense of strength and creates a premium look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>It&#8217;s an ergonomic office chair that&#8217;s seriously punching above its weight when it comes to build quality.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>As you assemble it (which takes around 15-25 minutes), you quickly get a sense of how solid each component is &#8211; just how well everything slots together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The thick back frames are the &#8220;backbones&#8221; of its robust anatomy, and are made from a premium-feeling plastic. Expensive-Looking Armrests.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;ve read my other chair reviews, you know I&#8217;m a huge armrest snob. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>No armrest is good enough for me, apparently. <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/herman-miller-aeron-office-chair-review\/\">Except the ones on a $3,000 Aeron<\/a>.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s some truth to that &#8211; and I was fully expecting the Sihoo M57 to have rubbish armrests, considering its entry-level price point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"965\" src=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/sihoo-m57-armpads.jpg\" alt=\"sihoo m57 armrests\" class=\"wp-image-89660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/sihoo-m57-armpads.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/sihoo-m57-armpads-300x283.jpg 300w, https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/sihoo-m57-armpads-768x724.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Above: I was impressed by the M57&#8217;s armrests. Padded and covered in dimpled, leathery plastic, they look and feel on point.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This chair has some of the best armrests I&#8217;ve ever encountered. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The surface is nicely padded and &#8211; crucially &#8211; doesn&#8217;t feel cheap. I&#8217;d go as far as saying that they feel better than those of my favourite <a href=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/ergotune-joobie-office-chair-review\/\">mid-range chair, the ErgoTune Joobie<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>These 3D armrests can pivot left and right (angle), slide backwards and forwards, and up and down.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a shame the armrests don&#8217;t adjust for width, though. Yes, you can rotate them out to give yourself some width at each tip, but it\u2019s not the same. My elbows feel a little pinched when using them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3 Reasons To Avoid The Sihoo M57.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the interest of balance, I want to share some of the downsides of the Sihoo M57 office chair. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Admittedly, it feels as though I&#8217;m nitpicking here. While the chair isn&#8217;t perfect, it&#8217;s pretty damn near close for the price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allow me to don my dirt-tinted glasses for a moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:60px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Tension Adjustment Is Hard To Reach.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The backrest can be locked in one of three positions: sitting\/tasking, semi-recline, and recline. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many chairs provide more recline positions, and I&#8217;m so used to having mine calibrated at a particular level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"965\" src=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/sihoo-m57-tension-adjustment.jpg\" alt=\"sihoo m57 tension adjustment knob\" class=\"wp-image-89656\" srcset=\"https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/sihoo-m57-tension-adjustment.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/sihoo-m57-tension-adjustment-300x283.jpg 300w, https:\/\/arielle.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/sihoo-m57-tension-adjustment-768x724.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Above: The tension knob is sandwiched between the seat pan and the optional footrest.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, the location of the recline tension adjustment knob is a pain, especially if you opt for the chair with the footrest included (which blocks access to it from the front). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s right under the chair, so you must dismount, get under it, and twist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"indent-wrapper\"><div class=\"indented-text\"><span>It&#8217;s a trial-and-error job to get the tension just right.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Upmarket chairs allow you to do this without having to play musical chairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then again, it&#8217;s a $340 chair, so maybe I&#8217;m being a little harsh. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-create-block-tip-block tip-wrapper\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-md-12\"><div class=\"card-wrapper\"><div class=\"card-title\"><div class=\"icon\"><svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"20\" height=\"20\" viewBox=\"0 0 20 20\" fill=\"none\"><path fill-rule=\"evenodd\" clip-rule=\"evenodd\" d=\"M7.5 14.33a5 5 0 1 1 5 0v4.17h-5v-4.17Zm4.25-1.3-.75.44V17H9v-3.53l-.75-.44a3.5 3.5 0 1 1 3.5 0Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><path d=\"M9.25 1v2h1.5V1h-1.5ZM5.53 4.47l-1.5-1.5-1.06 1.06 1.5 1.5 1.06-1.06ZM15.53 5.53l1.5-1.5-1.06-1.06-1.5 1.5 1.06 1.06ZM1 10.75h2v-1.5H1v1.5ZM17 10.75h2v-1.5h-2v1.5Z\" fill=\"#656E83\"><\/path><\/svg><\/div><h3 placeholder=\"Tip Title Goes Here\">Important!<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"card-content\"><p placeholder=\"Tip Content Goes Here\">The 50cm max seat pan height may be limiting for taller users.
