Falcons denied sweep of Saints because of 3 missed FGs and failures on pass defense

It should be no surprise the Atlanta Falcons won’t achieve perfection in their NFC South schedule

Strikes for two TDs against Atlanta Valdes-Scantling caught all three of his targets for 109 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Falcons.
Impact He hauled in both of the Saints' touchdowns on the day, and his only non-scoring catch went for 67 yards. It was a stunning performance from the veteran wideout, who came into Sunday with only three catches for 31 yards on the year, but with Rashid Shaheed (knee) lost for the season and Chris Olave (concussion) lacking a clear return date, Derek Carr seems to have found his new big-play threat. Valdes-Scantling will try to solidify his spot in the New Orleans passing attack in Week 11 against Cleveland.

Catches one pass in NOLA debut Valdes-Scantling hauled in his only target for five yards during Sunday's 23-22 loss versus the Panthers.
Impact Valdes-Scantling had a quiet start to his Saints tenure, as he saw his lone target midway through the third quarter. The 30-year-old played 41 percent of offensive snaps, which trailed only Mason Tipton (76) and Cedrick Wilson (47). Meanwhile, WR1 Chris Olave was forced out with a concussion in the first quarter. If Olave ends up missing time moving forward, then Tipton, Wilson and Valdes-Scantling could all see increased targets. However they'll still have to contend with running back Alvin Kamara and tight end Taysom Hill, as these two led the team in targets Week 9 with nine and five, respectively. The Saints' next game will come versus the Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 10.

Finds new home The Saints signed Valdes-Scantling on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Impact In the wake of losing Rashid Shaheed for the season due to a torn meniscus last week, the Saints were in the market for help at wide receiver, both in the short and long term. Currently, top option Chris Olave remains in the concussion protocol, so Mason Tipton, Bub Means and Cedrick Wilson are the others aside from Valdes-Scantling at the position on the active roster. Prior to getting cut by the Bills last Tuesday, Valdes-Scantling had hauled in two of nine targets for 26 yards in six appearances this season.
OCTOBER 21 • ROTOWIRE
Works out in Big Easy Valdes-Scantling had a workout with the Saints on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Less than a week removed from exiting Buffalo, Valdes-Scantling could be in line to call a new city home. The speedy pass catcher was not able to stand out enough with the Bills to hold on to a roster spot, but the receiver needy Saints could make more sense for his services. In his seventh season, the journeyman has logged just 26 yards on two receptions across six games.
OCTOBER 20 • ROTOWIRE
Moving on from Buffalo The Bills released Valdes-Scantling on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Impact Valdes-Scantling's release frees up a spot on the 53-man roster for the newly acquired Amari Cooper, but the Bills won't clear any cap space with the move, as Valdes-Scantling signed a fully guaranteed one-year, $2.25 million deal in the offseason. He suited up in each of the Bills' first six games of the season but failed to make much of an imprint in the box score, logging just two catches for 26 yards on nine targets while playing 127 snaps.
OCTOBER 15 • ROTOWIRE
Held catchless in loss Valdes-Scantling failed to secure his lone target in Sunday's 35-10 loss to the Ravens.
Impact Valdes-Scantling continued to play a limited role in Buffalo's offense in Week 4. The veteran wideout played 25 of the Bills' 59 offensive snaps, behind Keon Coleman (43), Mack Hollins (36) and Khalil Shakir (35). His one target was the lowest of any Buffalo wide receiver in the contest. Going forward, Valdes-Scantling won't hold much fantasy value barring injuries to the other members of the receiving corps. The Bills are set to visit the Texans in Week 5.
OCTOBER 2 • ROTOWIRE
Leads receivers in snaps Valdes-Scantling hauled in one of his two targets for a seven-yard gain in Monday's 47-10 win over the Jaguars.
Impact Valdes-Scantling finished as the surprising leader in playing time among Bills wideouts in Week 3. He took the field for 49 of the Bills' 64 offensive snaps, with his 77 percent snap share narrowly outpacing Mack Hollins (72 percent) and Khalil Shakir (55 percent). However, even with quarterback Josh Allen spreading the ball out liberally among his pass catchers through the first three weeks, Valdes-Scantling hasn't been able to make a mark in the box score. He's drawn just five targets this season and will likely continue to function mainly as a downfield threat who attracts attention from the defense and frees up looks for others underneath.
SEPTEMBER 25 • ROTOWIRE
Non-factor in Week 2 win Valdes-Scantling didn't catch his only target in Thursday's 31-10 win over the Dolphins.
Impact Valdes-Scantling has just one catch on the targets through two games with the Bills. The speedster will likely connect with big-armed quarterback Josh Allen for a few big plays this season, but those will likely come sporadically given Valdes-Scantling's lack of a consistent role in Buffalo's offense. Heading into a Week 3 home game against the Jaguars, Valdes-Scantling is fifth among Bills wide receivers in targets behind Khalil Shakir (eight), Keon Coleman (six), Curtis Samuel (four) and Mack Hollins (four).
SEPTEMBER 13 • ROTOWIRE
Targeted twice in win Valdes-Scantling reeled in one of his two targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 34-28 win over the Cardinals.
Impact Valdes-Scantling played just 13 of the Bills' 62 offensive snaps Sunday, the fewest of any Buffalo wideout. Buried on the depth chart behind Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel, the 29-year-old wideout will likely struggle to see enough consistent playing time to sustain fantasy relevance. Nonetheless, Valdes-Scantling will have his next opportunity to produce in what projects to be a shootout between Buffalo and Miami in Week 2.
SEPTEMBER 11 • ROTOWIRE
Healthy to kick off regular season Valdes-Scantling (neck) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report and does not carry any injury designation for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cardinals.
Impact Valdes-Scantling is fully recovered after having suffered a neck injury Aug. 17 in preseason action versus the Steelers. Full health doesn't guarantee that the veteran deep threat will be active Week 1 versus Arizona, though, as all of Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins are healthy and seem entrenched above him on the depth chart. If he suits up Sunday, Valdes-Scantling only figures to contribute in a reserve role on offense.
SEPTEMBER 4 • ROTOWIRE
Practicing in regular jersey Valdes-Scantling (neck) participated in the portion of practice available to the media Wednesday, Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 Radio reports.
Impact Valdes-Scantling suffered a neck injury in a preseason game Aug. 17 against the Steelers, but he has made progress in his recovery. Every member of Buffalo's recently finalized 53-man roster participated in some capacity, and Valdes-Scantling wasn't among the three players donning red non-contact jerseys. The veteran deep threat appears to be on pace to suit up Week 1 against the Cardinals, but it will be worth monitoring whether Valdes-Scantling's name pops up on the injury reports that Buffalo will begin publishing on game week.
AUGUST 28 • ROTOWIRE
Makes it past cuts Valdes-Scantling (neck) has made the initial 52-man roster, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
Impact MVS was no lock to make it, but coach Sean McDermott expressed optimism last week that the veteran has a good chance of being ready for Week 1, and when the Bills made their cutdown decisions there was a need for speed on the roster. Buffalo has been known to scour the free-agent wire pretty hard, so Valdes-Scantling is no lock to be in uniform for Week 1 against the Cardinals, and even if he does he's probably fifth on the depth chart to start the season. But it's at least worth noting that there is some fun to be had in this offense given his sheer speed and Josh Allen's ability to throw it most of the way down the field.
