Confirmed for ALDS Game 5 start Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said Friday that Boyd will start Saturday in Game 5 of the ALDS against the Tigers, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Impact Boyd will be on regular rest after holding the Tigers scoreless over 4.2 innings with five strikeouts in Game 2 on Monday. The left-hander will be opposed by Tarik Skubal in the winner-take-all affair.

In line to start Game 2 of ALDS Boyd is expected to start for Cleveland in Game 2 of the ALDS versus Detroit, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact It will be a revenge game for Boyd, who pitched for the Tigers from 2015 to 2021 and again in 2023. The left-hander joined the Guardians for the 2024 campaign and began the season on the IL with an elbow injury before making his Cleveland debut Aug. 13. In the majors, Boyd registered a 2.72 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 46:13 K:BB over 39.2 innings across eight starts. Ben Lively, who made 29 starts for Cleveland during the campaign, was left off the team's ALDS roster.

Logs another short start Boyd (2-2) took the loss against St. Louis on Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out six batters over four innings.
Impact Boyd wasn't tagged for a large amount of runs and yielded a modest four hits, but he issued three free passes and needed 88 pitches to get through four frames. Short starts have been the norm for the southpaw of late -- across his past three outings, he hasn't gone deeper than 4.1 innings despite yielding a tolerable five earned runs over 11 frames during that stretch. Boyd has had his strikeout stuff working, though, as he's posted 20 punchouts across those 11 innings.

Early exit in no-decision Boyd escaped with a no-decision in Monday's 4-3 win over the Twins, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out five.
Impact The veteran southpaw got the hook after 64 pitches (39 strikes) when four straight batters reached base in the third inning thanks to two walks and two hard-hit singles. Boyd has failed to last five innings in either of his last two outings, but he still has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any of his seven starts since joining the Guardians' rotation, delivering a 2.52 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB through 35.2 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road this weekend in St. Louis.

Strikes out nine Wednesday Boyd didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the White Sox, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out nine.
Impact All four runs against Boyd came in the third inning, though three were unearned following an Andres Gimenez throwing error. While 4.1 innings marked the shortest outing for Boyd this year, he was able to record a season-high nine strikeouts. Overall, the left-hander is 2-1 with a 2.18 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 35:7 K:BB across six starts (33 innings) since returning from Tommy John surgery in mid-August. Boyd's currently lined up to face the Twins at home early next week in his next outing.
