Impact The Hokies are on a bye this week, so Thomas will have more than a week to recover before the game against Duke on Nov. 23, but this is not an encouraging update on Thomas. The junior running back has 42 carries for 160 yards and a touchdown this season, and if he can't face Duke, then Jeremiah Coney could be in line to see more touches out of the backfield.

Bhayshul Tuten - Doesn't practice during bye Tuten (ankle) didn't practice during Virginia Tech's bye week session, Andy Bitter of Tech Sidelines reports.
Impact This is somewhat expected considering Tuten dealt with an ankle injury that limited him against Clemson. It's also expected because Virginia Tech is known to give its veterans a break on bye weeks. Tuten's next game isn't until Nov. 23, so he has plenty of time to heal that ankle beforehand.

Impact The matchup against the Blue Devils is still 11 days away, so it's too early to tell whether Gosnell will actually have trouble featuring in the game or not. However, the fact that he wasn't dressed for practice during the open week is not an encouraging sign. The wideout has 24 catches for 462 yards and a touchdown across 10 appearances in 2024.

Impact Drones was taken out of last week's loss to Clemson after throwing a pick, but it now appears as though the gunslinger is dealing with an injury as well. Impact Greene's touchdown was his second of what's been a quiet, 10-catch, 177-yard season for the sophomore wideout. His eight targets, however, were easily a season high. Time will soon tell if that was an outlier, or if Greene will emerge as one of the Hokies' top young receivers as the season winds down.

Da'Quan Felton - Leads way through the air Felton reeled in 6 of 11 targets for 68 yards during Saturday's 24-14 loss to Clemson.
Impact Felton managed to be the Hokies' leading receiver in a tough loss to Clemson. The combination of Kyron Drones and Colin Schlee looked his way a total of 11 times combined, which is a good sign that whoever plays quarterback in Blacksburg, Felton figures to remain a top receiving option.

Impact Tuten clearly wasn't himself against Clemson. Virginia Tech barely bothered to try to establish the running game, but when it did, Tuten found absolutely nothing on the ground. He missed just one game with his ankle injury, but it's fair to question his status for next week as the star tailback is clearly still dealing with some setbacks.

Collin Schlee - Takes over for struggling Drones Schlee was 7-for-17 passing for 73 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Saturday's 24-14 defeat versus Clemson. He also had five rushes for 28 yards.
Impact Schlee took over in the third quarter after a Drones interception with the Hokies already down 21-7 was apparently the last straw. Schlee, who started against Syracuse with Drones absent, wasn't much better. While he did throw a touchdown, it came with the game essentially out of reach already. There may be some intrigue at quarterback this week in Blacksburg.

Impact Drones and the Hokies' offense was stuck in the mud before a third quarter interception was the last straw and the quarterback was benched for Colin Schlee. Schlee didn't fare too much better, also throwing a pick. This was a tough showing for Drones, and just the second game all year he didn't account for a touchdown. There may be some quarterback controversy in Blacksburg this week.
